Production Engineer

Pinnacle Polymers, LLC, a privately-owned polypropylene manufacturing facility in Garyville, Louisiana, has an opening for a Production Engineer. The Production Engineer supports the planning and directing of activities in the process unit in a manner that achieves production of quality products in a safe, efficient, and reliable manner. 

 

Main responsibilities and key tasks
•    Conduct daily surveillance and monitoring of process parameters and TMR to identify production and product constraints
•    Provides technical support for day to day operations activities including product transition and upset conditions
•    Troubleshoots process/plant problems as necessary. Leads or participates in advanced troubleshooting and root cause incident investigations
•    Work closely with the Production Manager, Quality Team, and other production personnel to identify ways to improve the existing plant processes
•    Participate in the design and implementation of equipment and process improvements, material of construction improvements, and efficiency and cost control improvements
•    Investigate PUEDs, process issues, customer complaints, and Q-holds
•    Responsible for updating and composing Safe Operating Procedures (SOP) pertaining to the operating plant and maintain the master SOP matrix
•    Manage the plant water quality including cooling tower, potable water, steam and condensate
•    Support the internal training program by identifying personnel training deficiencies and providing input on prospective trainees
•    Leads and/or participates in plant improvement teams/committees
•    Serve as backup for the Production Manager
•    Plans and supports scheduled and unscheduled plant shutdowns and startups
•    Act as LOTO Coordinator during turnarounds, Special Projects Coordinator, and Shutdown and Startup Coordinator
•    Provide 24-hour on-call support
•    Other duties as assigned   

 


Competencies and skills 


•    B.S. in Chemical Engineering 
•    5+ years of process work experience in a manufacturing environment

•    Working knowledge of the UNIPOL Polymerization Process a plus
•    Strong understanding of DCS, SAP, and Microsoft applications
•    Must possess excellent organizational and prioritization skills
•    Leadership, motivational and interpersonal skills are required 
•    Must prioritize and execute tasks in a fast paced environment
•    Problem Solving - Works well in individual and group problem-solving situations
•    Must have a hands-on work ethic
•    Excellent communications skills and the ability to teach and train others
•    Ability to work in the U.S. and obtain successful completion of a pre-employment background check and screening.

 


Physical requirements & work environment 

 

•    Normal Production Plant environment with controlled climate as well as outside elements, which at times may include extreme heat or extreme cold.
•    Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job which are: frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb stairs, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
•    Must be able to hear sounds and recognize the difference between them, focus on one source of sound and ignore others, understand speech of another person, speak clearly so listeners can understand.  Use of radio communications and hearing protection is required in process operation areas.    •    Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and pass any medical examination associated with the use of PPE.
•    Must be able to safely perform the essential functions of the job without posing a direct threat to the safety of his or her own self, or the safety of others.
