Primary responsibilities and key objectives

  • Market analysis and strategy development: Stay informed about energy market trends, regulatory changes and geopolitical factors that could impact energy prices. Develop procurement strategies based on market insights to optimize cost savings and minimize risks, including the creation of an annual category plan for energy procurement. Develop and maintain an intricate energy performance framework.
  • Supplier management and negotiation: Identify and engage with energy suppliers to negotiate favorable contracts for electricity, natural gas and other energy resources. Negotiate terms and conditions, including pricing, contract duration and flexibility options.
  • Risk management: Implement risk management strategies to mitigate risks associated with energy procurement, such as price volatility, supply disruptions and regulatory changes. Utilize financial instruments like hedging contracts to manage price risk.
  • Contract management: Oversee the drafting, review and execution of energy supply contracts. Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements while safeguarding the organization's interests.
  • Data analysis and performance monitoring: Analyze energy consumption data and procurement metrics to track performance against targets and identify opportunities for improvement. Use data-driven insights to optimize procurement decisions and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Renewable energy procurement and sustainability initiatives: Explore opportunities to procure renewable energy sources, such as wind, solar, or biomass, to support sustainability goals. Develop strategies for integrating renewable energy into the organization's energy portfolio while balancing cost considerations.
  • Stakeholder engagement and communication: Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including finance, operations and sustainability teams, to align energy procurement strategies with organizational objectives. Communicate monthly/quarterly reporting effectively with senior management and other stakeholders to provide updates on procurement activities and outcomes.
  • Compliance and reporting: Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, market rules and contractual obligations related to energy procurement. Prepare reports and presentations to convey procurement performance, cost savings and risk management efforts to key stakeholders.
  • Continuous improvement and innovation: Stay abreast of emerging trends and technologies in energy procurement and management. Identify opportunities for innovation and process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in procurement practices.

 
Education and relevant experience 

  • Bachelor's/Master's degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience with energy management, preferably green and renewable energy practices.
  • Expertise in global market operations and regulations.
  • Proven track record in maintaining and enhancing Energy Management Systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of energy-related legislation, regulation and requirements.
  • Fluent utilization of Microsoft Office.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated sense of responsibility and flexibility.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally (maximum 20%).

 
Languages 

  • Fluent in English.
  • Proficiency in Dutch, French or any other European language is advantageous.
